71. The Absurdity of Neutron Stars [SIS Internet Digest $]
... so". Two key symptoms of such science are (1) the resort to fantastic theories contrary to our experience, and (2) the use of ad-hoc requirements to save the appearances. If we apply these criteria, two disciplines that share line honours for pathological or strange science are cosmology and particle physics. Here are some of the many unstated assumptions underpinning the X-ray pulsar model: It is assumed that the physics of neutral matter and ideal gases on Earth can be used to explain the operation of the glowing balls of plasma we call stars. Wal comments: 99.999% of the universe is made of plasma. It is not necessarily electrically neutral and does not behave like an ideal gas. It is assumed that all interstellar plasma is mostly an ionized, uncharged, superconducting gas that can trap and carry magnetic fields. Wal: Plasma is not a superconductor so magnetic fields cannot be trapped in it. The origin of the magnetic fields is not clear from standard theory. The Electric Universe proposes that magnetic fields and plasma filaments in space are formed ...

Geologists assume that the cause is similar to the cause of lightning in thunderstorms. From an electric universe point of view, the Earth is a small charged body moving in a large cell of plasma, and there is charge waiting for a connection to it. More than 150 times in the past two centuries, volcanic eruptions have been accompanied by spectacular displays of lightning. Sometimes broad bolts of lightning streak across the sky. Other times St. Elmo's fire (ball lightning) cascades from above. Sometimes volcanoes produce branching displays such as at Sakurajima (see photo above.) The 1981 eruption of Mt St Helens featured a spectacular display of sheet lightning ...

74. The Thunderbolt in Myth and Symbol [SIS Internet Digest $]
... when the planets were claimed to have ruled the world. [..From the beginning I was convinced (following Velikovsky's lead) that lightning bolts had passed between planets. And I had identified the Valles Marineris on Mars as the lightning scar, wound, or disfiguring mark on the celestial warriors of mythology (the "Scarface" motif about which I've spoken elsewhere). But prior to Wal Thornhill's arrival in Portland, I didn't even know what a Birkeland Current is, and I knew nothing about the unique configurations taken by plasma discharges. Convergence of Myth and Science While I've experienced many breakthroughs over more than a quarter century, this one exceeded all others. It was the first indication that, at a level of explicit detail, a convergence of myth and science may be possible. This, then, inspired me to reconsider the mythic thunderbolt in terms far more concrete than I had previously envisioned. Until then, I had treated the thunderbolt as a secondary symbol, a meteorological signpost only generally directing our attention to the sights and sounds of primordial ...

Jan 01, 2007 Temperatures in Space The Chandra X-Ray Telescope has found anomalous temperatures at the core of the Milky Way, but the anomalies disappear in the light of plasma lab experiments. The Chandra news release announcing this new image of the center of the Milky Way said that the X-ray spectrum of the gases "is consistent with a hot gas cloud that contains two components --10- million-degree Celsius gas and 100-million-degree gas." This result was unexpected and difficult to explain. The press release describes the problem in greater detail: "Shock waves from supernova explosions are the most likely explanation for heating the 10-million-degree gas, but how the 100-million-degree gas is heated is not known. Ordinary supernova shock waves won't work, and heating by very high-energy particles produces the wrong spectrum of X-rays. Also, the observed Galactic magnetic field appears to rule out confinement ...

... The galaxy cluster Abell 3376 lies about 600 million light years away from the earth. As seen in the picture above, two ends of the cluster reveal giant arcs of high-energy radio emission, each about three million light-years across. (For reference: just one light year is almost 6 trillion miles.) Something is occurring on a macrocosmic scale that challenges traditional concepts of galaxies moving in splendid isolation, and connected only by the trivial gravitational force. Here, thousands of galaxies are indisputably linked to coherent, high-energy events. For plasma cosmologists and Electric Universe proponents, the electric force is the only meaningful and testable explanation for such a vast radio source in space. It is therefore with dismay that the electrical theorists consider the conventional discussion sparked by this latest “surprise.” As one plasma scientist has put it to us, conventional theory typically envisions high-energy events on a galactic or intergalactic scale in terms of celestial objects smashing together. So two sides will often debate ways to accomplish this. As summarized on NewScientist.com, one interpretation suggests:“ roughly a ...

... From: SIS Internet Digest 1999:1 (Apr 1999) Home¦ Issue Contents The Electric Universe CD by Wallace Thornhill Review by Amy Acheson Thoth Vol III, No. 4. Feb 15, 1999 Wallace Thornhill's CD offers a visual invitation to toss aside the straightjacket of paradigm paralysis and explore the universe from an electric point of view. He covers an enormous range of phenomena, from subatomic particles through stellar and galactic evolution, floodlighting our understanding of the universe with insights garnered from mythical symbols, space probes, and plasma lab experiments. As an illustration, let me compare the received explanation with Thornhill's electric explanation for the tail of Halley's Comet, both presented in light of photographs returned by the ESA spacecraft Giotto in March, 1986. The standard theory states that "Comets grow tails only when they get warm enough for ice and dust to boil off.... on the [sunward side, jets of gas and dust spurt from active holes in its [the comet's surface and are illuminated by the sun."
