61. The Big Bang Never Happened [SIS C&C Workshop $]
... described as 'an independent researcher and writer and has published numerous articles on science and technology in many publications' (sic). Lerner mentions some particular sources that have been important to him for this book. He singles out Elaine Pagels' Adam, Eve and the Serpent and conversations with Hannes Alfven, Tony Peratt and Ilya Prigogine. Much of the earlier part of the book is concerned with a possible alternative to Big Bang Cosmology. This he calls 'Plasma Cosmology', largely based on the work of Hannes Alfven, a Swedish plasma physicist, who has extended his ideas from research on nuclear fusion power containment to the solar system, the galaxy and finally cosmology. This is the section that members of the SIS may well find of interest. Perhaps unfortunately from our point of view, Alfven takes as his starting point the uniformitarian dogma that 'the evolution of the universe must be explicable in terms of the processes occurring in the universe today'. 'The plasma universe... is formed and controlled by electricity and magnetism, not just gravitation- it is ...

... From: Aeon V:2 (Apr 1998) Home¦ Issue Contents Bookshelf The Electric Universe: Slide Presentation& Notes by Wallace Thornhill (KRONIA, Beaverton, Oregon, 1997) Reviewed by Amelia Acheson Thornhill's presentation offers a visual invitation to toss aside the straightjacket of paradigm paralysis and to explore the Solar System from an electric point of view. He covers an enormous range of phenomena, from subatomic particles through stellar evolution, floodlighting our understanding of the universe with insights garnered from mythical symbols, space probes, and the plasma physics lab. As an illustration, let me compare the received explanation re the tail of Halley's Comet with Thornhill's electric account, both presented in light of photographs returned by the ESA spacecraft Giotto in March, 1986. The standard theory has it that: "Comets grow tails only when they get warm enough for ice and dust to boil off...[O n the [sunward side, jets of gas and dust spurt from active holes in its surface and are illuminated by the sun." [1 Thornhill's ...

... suggest that Neptune's magnetic field is powerful. Venus, without a magnetic field, is a convenient example of what is found in planets with true magnetic fields. The list of phenomena is as follows: 1. Venus has a strong bow shock. When the solar wind intercepts the Moon, or an asteroid, it is absorbed by the surface rock. When it interacts with planets having atmospheres or magnetic fields, or [with a planetary ionosphere, [such as Venus'...a shock front forms which deflects the solar wind plasma around the obstacle, slows it down and heats it. Observations at Venus show that an ionosphere can be an efficient deflector of the solar wind and, here too, a strong bow shock is formed. (13) Russell indicates that "[ t he Venus bow shock was detected on the Venera 4 and 6 and Mariner 5 and 10 missions...and extensively mapped with Venera 9 and 10." (14) He concludes that "[ t he Venus bow shock is somewhat weaker than the terrestrial bow shock. ...

... other weapons. For anyone seeking to comprehend ancient images of the gods, there can be no greater mistake than to rationalize away the cosmic scale of the described events. But that WILL be the tendency so long as scholars demand that present references in nature account for the ancient depictions. EVIDENCE FROM MANY FIELDS This is an interdisciplinary investigation. To expose the roots of the mythical and symbolic archetypes, we must range across highly diverse fields of evidence. Archaic images of the thunderbolt will provide a unifying thread, connecting planetary geology, plasma science, and astronomy to a most extraordinary epoch of human history, anciently remembered as "the age of gods and wonders." In this investigation, the "lightning bolts" now spanning galaxies will offer crucial analogies for the remembered thunderbolts of mythical gods and heroes. Physical scars on solid bodies within the solar system will become evidence EXPECTED under a new model of planetary history. And the configurations taken by plasma discharges in the laboratory will confirm the accuracy of highly enigmatic rock art and other depictions of the divine thunderbolt. ...

Perhaps the similarity of their brightness curves to those of lightning is the best indicator of the cause. What makes a variable star vary? The conventional astronomer and the plasma astronomer will give different answers, because a conventional star and an electrically driven star are not at all alike. Variable stars, such as Mira (photo above), fit well in the theory of electric stars. Most have a brightness curve similar to that of lightning, with a sudden rise time followed by a slower exponential decay. You can see this curve in the charts of two variables, Mira and of Delta Cephei above. The brightness curve of Mira (upper diagram) follows the same ...

Between January 15 th and 19 th four powerful solar flares erupted from “sunspot 720”, shown in the picture above. Then on January 20 the fifth explosion produced a coronal mass ejection (CME) that achieved velocities incomparably greater than anything astronomers had seen before. While it often takes more than 24 hours for the charged particles of a solar outburst to reach the Earth, this one was a profound exception. Just thirty minutes after the explosion, Earth (some 96 million miles from the Sun) was immersed in what NASA scientists called “the most intense proton storm in decades”. Proton storms get their name ...
