... World's rock art. It was and still is the first global project concerned with the collection of prehistoric rock art. It is necessary to enter the original material and to continue to add examples from newly discovered prehistoric sites which are presently vulnerable, into a secure and easily obtainable computer database. ... From: SIS Workshop Vol 3 No 1 (Jul 1980) Home | Issue Contents Letters Names for Venus Dear Sir, With 93% of the surface of Venus now mapped by Pioneer Venus I radar, astronomers are busying themselves giving names to the identified features. The policy decision of the Working Group on Planetary Nomenclature of the International Astronomical Union regarding names for Venus shows a rare feel for pan-terrestrial tradition. Although the NASA press release supplying this information ( NASA News May 1980) mentions that Aphrodite was "known to the Romans as Venus" - thus suggesting a reason for the choice of nomenclature, by the "coincidence" of the same name being borne by both ...

... gangs, one of the "Left" and one of the "Right": this division was probably that made by the main street of the village, which runs north to south, as the Egyptians used the words "left" and "right" to designate "east" and "west", because they looked at the map, as it were, from the Nile Delta, with Upper Egypt (the south) at the top, so that the east is on the left-hand side. - These gangs of workmen are very well documented, and the census lists which were taken at the beginning and end of each shift are very well documented as well. ...

248. A Reply to Mr. Cohen [Journals] [Catastrophism & Ancient History]
... locates Tushratta's kingdom in northern Media. We have from the Hittite archives the record of a campaign by Suppiluliumas against Tushratta.[2 ] Presumably under the terms of the Velikovskian solution Mr. Cohen dates this campaign to the period c. 670 B.C .( ?) The line of the Hittite campaign can be traced on a map- across the upper Euphrates; finding Washukkani (the Mitannian capital) abandoned, Suppiluliumas recrossed the Euphrates into northern Syria. Clearly the Hittite campaign did not extend into northern Media. According to the terms of Thesis 189[3 ] Suppiluliumas was Shamash-shum-ukin of Babylon- brother of Ashurbanipal of Assyria. This could suggest that the Hittite campaign ...

... So were they really built around 2500BC, or were they rebuilt in two stages as alignments altered? Pietron considered a variety of myths and origin traditions which gave clues to the cardinal directions in earlier times. He dealt with the geology of the Mediterranean and the Nile Valley and their implications for climate change, along with the evidence of old maps which indicate an ice-free Antarctica, and concluded that this physical evidence, along with most sky imagery, points to Earth having previously had an obliquity of 0 . Pietron also gave us a detailed assessment of the former roles and relationship of the planets Venus and Jupiter and even touched on the subject of Mayan calendars and large discrepancies in world ...

... murky depths of Alexandria's polluted twin harbour. The ruins, including those of the palaces, cover more than 5.5 acres, and, while they promise to become something of an archaeological gold mine, the vastness of this underwater area presents a formidable challenge to excavators. The cost alone is going to prove exorbitant. The cost of mapping the area, which was accomplished in 1993 under the jurisdiction of Jean-Yves Empereur, the Director of the French Centre of Alexandrian Studies, has already come to $500,000. What has been discovered so far, but not yet retrieved, are thousands of statues and building blocks, some of which, believed to belong to the ...
