... at the time indicated by Plato (see C&C Workshop 1987:2 , pp. 12-15). That has prompted some to look further afield for Atlantis. In When the Sky Fell, sub-titled In Search of Atlantis, Canadian librarians, Rand and Rose Flem-Ath combine Plato's Atlantis story with Charles Hapgood's theories of catastrophic crustal displacement. Hapgood was impressed by ancient maps, said to be copies of even older maps, which appeared to show the Antarctic continent free of ice. This, he argued, revealed that Antarctica had moved into the polar regions as a result of a crustal displacement, within the period of human civilisation. The Flem-Aths' main thesis is that Atlantis ...

... tippe-top. Elizabeth Chesley Baity is an anthropologist, and gave an account of her work on the "fire-bull" ritual, which appears to be of world-wide distribution and of early date. Something had clearly impressed early man; and she illustrated her talk with numerous slides in dealing with the works of Velikovsky, Schaeffer, Patten, Muck, Hapgood and others. John Bimson gave a lucid talk on the archaeological controversy over the copper workings at Timna and the dating of pottery found there and at related sites. He made a strong case for the original dating of Nelson Glueck as compared to that now widely accepted. Recent radio-carbon dating of charcoal from the Timna workings supports his ( ...

... in which the entire site was abandoned and became covered in woodland, with silting up of the ditch. This evidence ties in with that for a break in occupation at other sites well away from Stonehenge. The later building of monumental structures can no longer be seen as a part of an unbroken astronomical culture sequence, as previously thought. Hapgood Supported sources: INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE 27.9 .84; EOS 65:493 & 65:1226; SCIENCE FRONTIERS nos.36 (Nov-Dec 1984) & 38 (Mar-Apr 1985) The theory of Professor Charles Hapgood, that large areas of the world were mapped in ancient times, has received much overdue attention lately. One ...

... trail goes cold When the Sky Fell: In search of Atlantis by Rand and Rose Flem-Ath (Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1995, £18 99). Yet another Atlantis book, using Plato, myth and ideas of geological catastrophe to pinpoint the whereabouts of the mythical lost city. This one also uses the catastrophic crustal displacement theories of Charles Hapgood and concludes that there was indeed a race of intelligent seafarers about 12,000 years ago - and the reason no evidence has yet been found is that it is hidden under the ice in Antarctica. Doomsday is almost here Rogue Asteroids and Doomsday Comets by Duncan Steel (John Wiley, 1995, £16 99). Since the ...

... Antarctic with ice-free coastlines and then moves on to a section headed "Prediction - What modern researchers have to say". The section comprises seven chapters, each summarizing and commenting upon the work of a different author. Readers of SISR will surely be familiar with the names of the first four of these, namely Hugh Auchinloss Brown, Charles Hapgood, Immanuel Velikovsky and Peter Warlow. These four, I think, merit the title "researchers", but since two of them specifically avoid predicting any future event, the section title is really a bit misleading. White, however, gives what seems to be a fair summary of each work and there is some value in having ...

... | Issue Contents Pole Shift Forum http://www.poleshift.org Pole Shift Forum exists to host informed debate about earth-bound mechanisms that might possibly cause such an event. We don't intend to debate popular extraterrestrial mechanisms, such as asteroids. Some have suggested over-accumulation of ice at the pole as a possible cause. Currently features Charles Hapgood, and Dr Walter O Peterson's "Solar Electrojet" based on "Auroral Electrojets" - an auroral phonomenon causing current to flowing through the Alaskan Pipeline. ...
