... Ark, and ends with an extensive section on structural artefacts such as temples, dolmens, menhirs, vitrified forts, henges, pyramids, obelisks and ancient tunnels and mines. Astronomical alignments naturally figure prominently in this section starting with the pioneering work of Lockyer and others and going up to C. A. Newham's article on Stonehenge in Nature (1966). (Thom does not appear in this volume). The two volumes of Strange Phenomena (which are not to hand), are uniform with the above and cover curious geophysical events, including giant hailstones ball lightning, falls of fish, luminous portents of earthquakes, the Andes glow et al. Full bibliographical details are given for each item and the sections of each book are classified and thoroughly indexed by author and subject. The books are in ring-binder format to allow further sections to be added as they are published. The editor has cast his net very wide to collect his strange fish, and he is quite aware that he has possibly caught the occasional red herring so beloved of Von Daniken and ...

MUNK, W.H. MACDONALD, G.J.F." The Rotation of the Earth: a Geophysical Discussion" Cambridge U.P. £6.50, 1975 Aimed at graduate research workers the contents include precession, nutation and wobble, dynamics, observations of the length of day, historical and geological variations. SUPPE, F." The Structure of Scientific Theories" Un. of Illinois Pr. 1974 Claims to be the only comprehensive treatment of philosophical thought on the controversial nature of theories. ... Kiev Observatory, has qualitatively and quantitatively discussed the origin of the smaller planets from the larger planets and the origin of comets from the larger planets and their satellites. He has also supported his views with data from meticulous observations of comets. Recently Mamedov (18) analysed the orbits of hypothetical comets that originated from Jupiter and also he (19) used computer calculations to modify and support Vsekhsvyatskii's theory of comet origin on or near the surface of Jupiter. In 1972, Cook (20), who is with the Department of Geophysics at the University of Edinburgh, published an article related to the internal structures of the Moon and planets. He concluded that although all planets are surrounded by different mantles they could have cores similar to that of the Earth. If this were the case, variations between the average density of Jupiter and bodies expelled from Jupiter would not be unexpected. Cook considers some of the popular models of Jupiter and Saturn which assume the planets to be composed of hydrogen with various amounts and distributions of helium. The characteristics of Saturn cannot be ...

The Exodus- a debate on the parallels adduced by Velikovsky between the biblical account of the Plagues of Egypt and the Papyrus Ipuwer. Bob Forrest, a major critic of Velikovsky's use of source material, presents a case against Velikovsky's identifications, followed by responses from other scholars. A report on new archaeological work in Israel that appears to confirm Velikovsky and Bimson's link between the Israelite Conquest of Canaan and the end of the Middle Bronze Age in Palestine. Geophysical evidence from Israel for the "commotion" (earthquake) in the reign of the 8th-century king Uzziah. How valid are the claims that Claudius Ptolemy faked his data on ancient eclipses and his list of Babylonian kings; and how much does Assyrian chronology depend on Ptolemy and other astronomical data? Swedish ancient historian Carl Olof Jonsson assesses the evidence for the basis of ancient Mesopotamian chronology. Dr Earl Milton (physicist, Lethbridge University, Canada), takes a radical look at the validity of the dating methods presently used in geology ...
