... meagre knowledge with yours." And then he got on to some political question, and we never did get upstairs to dig out the material on Aphrodite (which he probably hasn't looked at for some time).) He has half a dozen manuscripts either in complete form or half done: he has the book on his discussions with Einstein, and several volumes on the early history of the controversy, and a volume on radiocarbon dating. (He's got hooked on carbon-14 dates, having gained some points on radiocarbon dates, but now having perhaps to confront radiocarbon dating antagonistically.) There's a book called The Test of Time , a review of confirmations of his advance claims ...

... states that he finds "the situation in legend and myth .. .fuzzy" and that "any corroboratory evidence from other sources would be welcome by those who support Velikovsky's argument."e In fact, there is corroboratory evidence from geology, archaeology, and paleontology. It is contained in Velikovsky's book, Earth in Upheaval. Albert Einstein supplied Velikovsky with marginal notes and handwritten comments on chapters VIII through XII and he had read the entire text. Velikovsky in the Author's Note' states, "As early as the 1960's, I found that Earth in Upheaval was displacing The Origin of Species in the courses of a number of geophysicists-as in the case of my visit to ...

... (1958), interplanetary magnetic field (1960), and solar plasma (1960), followed by the discovery of quasars, pulsars, and black holes. But in 1950 the claim that the universe is not a vacuum but is permeated by electric charges and magnetic fields was greeted as an inadmissible heresy. A correspondence between A. Einstein and Velikovsky (1950-1955) bears witness to this attitude in science. Einstein stressed that the scientific community's violent opposition to Velikovsky centered on this claim. Martin Gardner (In the Name of Science, 1952) classified Velikovsky with flat-earthers for inventing "electromagnetic forces capable of doing precisely what he wants them to be. There is no scientific ...

... Thornhill: The closeness of another planetary body to the Earth is not sufficient to attenuate gravity by pulling objects upward ( to the degree required by Ted's calculation) without disrupting them both. It requires an actual change in the force of gravity from the Earth itself. This is where we get into trouble with the physicists. They believe that Einstein has explained' gravity as a curvature of space in the presence of mass, when all he did was to provide a nonsensical description' of gravity. They therefore believe that Newton's law with its UNIVERSAL constant, G, is applicable everywhere. However, it seems to me and some other physicists that gravity may be explained by electrostatic ...

... abandonment of Velikovsky's theses. In fact, I find the corroborated claims an oasis of hope in a desert otherwise dotted with hazardous boulders and salt sinks. However, it also behooves us to recognize that Velikovsky was wrong in some parts of his scenario. The question becomes one of discovering which parts are rotten and which good. Just as Einstein demonstrated that Newton's laws weren't the whole story, so Einstein's theories will also eventually be superseded. If history teaches us anything, it is that nothing is constant; and Velikovsky's scenario is unlikely to be an exception. Kirk L. Thompson West Branch, IA REFERENCES 1. Ellenberger, C. ... with each other, "classical" physics would predict that their independent choices would bear no relationship to each other. But when the paths of the two photons were properly adjusted and the results compared, the independent decisions by the paired photons always matched, even though there was no physical way for them to communicate with each other. Albert Einstein sneered [at] the very possibility of such a thing, calling it "spooky action at a distance." Scientists still (somewhat shamefacedly) speak of the "magic" of "quantum weirdness." And yet all experiments in recent years have shown that Einstein was wrong and that action at a distance is real." ...
