251. TRIPOD CAULDRONS [Quantavolution Website]
... Quantavolution.Org E-MAIL: contact@quantavolution.org TABLE OF CONTENTS KA by H. Crosthwaite CHAPTER NINE TRIPOD CAULDRONS IF put up into the air, a tripod cauldron resembles the popular idea of a comet. It also looks like the seething pot of Old Testament Jeremiah I: 13. I suggest that the Greeks linked the god in the ground with the god in the sky. There was a copper cauldron on the roof of the temple of Zeus at Olympia, and another at Delos. Is there any evidence to support this theory? By simple metathesis, such as occurs with the Greek 'kratos' and 'kartos', we get 'stephanos', crown, and 'setphanos', Set revealing or shining. The Egyptian god Set was well known to the Greeks. He killed Osiris; the Greeks equated him with Typhon. It is difficult to escape the conclusion that the tripod and cauldron, with a crown of fire, were an attempt to represent, and to establish communication with a god in the sky, elsewhere described as a seething pot facing north, and ...

252. A Maya Record of Two Thousand Years? [Catastrophism & Ancient History Journal $]
... -- but not all-- Maya scholars. The Greenland ice core studies of Hammond, Clausen, and Dansgaard (1980) show clear evidences of volcanoes such as Hekla and Thera, but the most conspicuous volcanic acid fallout layer in 9000 years occurred -3150 90 in their core. This event does not correlate with any European volcano, and so applies to the Western Hemisphere. The question is, was it world wide? All sorts of evidence indicate that global things were happening at this time: the fragmentation of the proto comet Encke (Whipple), magnetic discontinuity (Smith), climatic deterioration (Lamb), ice core anomaly (Hammer), building of the pyramids (Hawkes), two calendars beginning with catastrophe-- Indian (Parker) and Maya (Thompson), and the start of the Kish dynasty (Mellart). The geophysical evidence pointing to -1561 is sensational, and generally self-consistent. Daley (1926, 177) and Kuenen (1950,538) arrive at this approximate date for a geologically rapid drop in sea level ...

... Scaled down Velikovskian catastrophes peep through the text. According to Asimov, one of the smaller asteroids "might be pulled out of its orbit by the attraction of some planet- Jupiter perhaps- and it takes up a new orbit, which may bring it close to the Earth". And one of the many comets beyond Pluto might alter its orbit under the pull of a nearby star, "... scooting by the Sun, perhaps passing by the Earth on the way. Comets can hit the Earth. A small comet once did." So far so good. And the opening sentence of a panel accompanying the short article also bodes well: "The possibility that meteors are responsible for at least some biblical events can't be entirely ruled out." One immediately thinks of the famous incident at the Beth Horon pass, where Joshua's struggle with the Canaanites was aided by the fall of great "stones of barad", the clearest description in the Bible of a fall of meteorites. As Velikovsky has pointed out, barad could not be " ...

... over relatively short spans of time --must play unrecognized roles in celestial affairs. As we shall note presently, there is compelling evidence to indicate that the sun, the earth, and the moon, to name only a few major bodies in the solar system, are electrically charged. Yet the very precision with which gravitational theory accounts for the planetary motions seems to belie this evidence. Perturbations due to repulsive electrical forces, for example, are nowhere in evidence today --not even, I hasten to suggest, in the strange behavior of comet tails, about which I shall have more to say later. This impasse between celestial mechanics and the notion of cosmic electrical interactions was recognized long ago. A reconciliation seemed so unlikely that physical scientists of half a dozen successive generations felt compelled to devise all sorts of exotic theories to explain away the most obvious evidence for electric charge on the earth. An important clue to the vanity of all such ad hoc theorizing was radioed back to earth in 1962 by Mariner 2. Man's first successful Venus probe established once and for all ...

... no doubt that this very spot is the remembered station of the primeval sun. Of course from the vantage point of modern astronomy the entire idea is outrageous. They also report seeing unexpectedly brief and intense bursts of activity from the nucleus during the monitoring period. The Hubble observations suggest that the nucleus is huge, 19 to 25 miles (30 to 40 kilometers) across. ... can only have been as an inner planet- just as modern Venus. But Inanna may have represented the Morning Star some three hundred years earlier, for the goddess is portrayed on the seal of Adda (the major-domo of Enheduanna) as supervising the rising of the sun-god, Utu [55. Hallo and van Dijk have noted the 'astral and yet terrestrial' character of Inanna which appears in Enheduanna's era. Her iconography also has distinctly un-starlike aspects, ranging from the reed gatepost/ring head with streamer, suggestive of an erratic comet, to the huge 'wild cow' horns of the urus. Like the astral yet terrestrial character of this goddess, the attributes of planet and comet are seemingly contradictory. Figure 7. Detail of the seal of Adda. ... after the Trojan War. The latter probably occurred within, or at the end of, the 19th Dynasty: hence the Dorians may have entered the Peleponesse during the mid- to late- 20th Dynasty. Might 30 year generations be a more appropriate calculation: viz., the reigns of kings as opposed to generations connected with tenures in high office such as High Priest etc., in which a figure nearer 20 years may be postulated? Perhaps David will comment on this. Phillip Clapham, High Wycombe, Bucks. Halley's Comet Predictions Dear Sir, In the October 1985 issue of Southern Cross, the journal of the Canberra Astronomical Society, I had an article published dealing with the electrical nature of cometary phenomena, with Ralph Juergens's ideas firmly in mind but unmentioned. Instead I drew attention to an article in the Scientific American for July 27, 1872, entitled 'The Nature of Comets', which showed clearly that an electrical explanation for a comet's tail was then considered to be acceptable. After putting my money on the 100+ year old explanation and ...
