71. Sabbath [Velikovsky Archive Website]
... found them. (10) Social institutions are generally not observed with such an awe and with such rigor. It was actually not the Deity, having worked during six ages and reposed in the seventh who gives example to man; it is man, by abstaining from work on the seventh day, the symbol of the seventh world age, who invites the Supreme Being to keep the established order of the heaven and earth, and not to submit them to new revolutions. The same idea is found in the prayer of the Chinese Emperor Shun, who lived shortly after the Emperor Yahu. This prayer, declaimed by him, reads: ? The sun and moon are constant; the stars and other heavenly bodies have their motions; the four seasons observe their rule.? (11) A number of centuries thereafter, in the days of the Emperor Kwei, the order of the celestial sphere was again disrupted: ? the planets went out of their courses.? (12) Also Hebrew psalmists and prophets tried to suggest to nature to abstain from ...

72. Ra as Saturn [SIS Internet Digest $]
... pole, a position it does not at present attain? And yet, throughout the ancient world, Saturn was strangely located at precisely this locality. In the Persian BUNDAHISH, the planet Saturn was assigned as the guardian of Gah- "the great one of the middle of the sky"- who was the Pole Star.(51) In China, the planet Saturn is called Tchou-niou-tchi-chin, a name that translates as "Genie [or spirit of the Pivot."(52) This Pivot, however, which in Chinese is rendered as T'ien-Tchou, that is "pivot of the sky," was their name for the Pole Star.(53) Thus, when the Chinese refer to Saturn as the "Genie of the Pivot," they are claiming that Saturn was the "Soul of the Pole Star." In Sanskrit, the Pole Star is called Dhruva, a name that, appropriately enough, translates as "fixed, firm, stable, permanent, constant, unchangeable."(54) Another Sanskrit word with similar meanings ...

73. The Tao [Kronos $]
... From: Kronos Vol. I No. 1 (Spring 1975) Home¦ Issue Contents The Tao The "Tao, the Way- the basic Chinese belief in an order and harmony in nature. This grand concept originated in remote times, from observation of the heavens and of nature --the rising and setting of sun, moon, and stars, the cycle of day and night, and the rotation of the seasons --suggesting the existence of laws of nature, a sort of divine legislation that regulated the pattern in the heavens and its counterpart on earth."(1) The following essay has, for the most part, been extracted from an editorial which appeared in the journal Chiron (2) and appropriately summarizes many of the ideas contained within this present issue of KRONOS. "Throughout antiquity priests and poets warned our ancestors that riot, plague, and the fall of nations were merely the profane manifestations of celestial disharmony, or what they called 'a perturbation of the heavenly spheres.' In fact this view of man's relationship to the cosmos was ...

74. Venus And Sirius [Kronos $]
... civilisations to find what light they may shed on the Egyptian text. In the Soochow Astronomical Chart, an eight-centuries-old inscription in stone, in a section that deals with past irregularities in the heavens, there is the following statement: "Once T'ai-P'ai (Venus) suddenly ran into Lang Hsing (Wolf Star, Sirius), though it is more than 40 degrees south of the Yellow Road."(6) The Yellow Road is the ecliptic.(7) The same ancient tradition was referred to by the early eighth-century AD Chinese astronomer Y-hang. As told by Gaubil,(8) Y-hang wrote that "in the time of Tsin one saw the star Sirius eclipsed by the planet Venus. Y-hang, after having reported this alleged observation, assures that Sirius has 40 degrees south latitude, and that therefore Heaven changed the course of this planet in the time of Tsin." As the Chinese astronomer correctly observed, the ancient records of Venus' movements cited by him would require the planet to travel outside of the ecliptic, on an orbit quite different ...

75. A Maya Record of Two Thousand Years? [Catastrophism & Ancient History Journal $]
... only local interest, because the sharpest breaks in temperature followed closely those in oxygen( 18 O) measured in Greenland ice cores over the past 1600 years. An extraordinary sharp drop of 9 degrees F occurred in -1100, and the temperature remained low for nearly 200 years. Certainly this major climatic catastrophe in China was felt world-wide and could have been the result of gigantic volcanic explosions and earthquakes which were followed by more of the same for many years as isostacy was approached. The period -1155 to -996 in Table 1 fits the Chinese record rather well. The high altitude ash blanketing the earth under such conditions might prevent stellar observations and suggests the notion that the aberrant numbers define periods of astronomical uncertainty. The approximate date of the sharp temperature drop, -1155in Table 1, suggests an explanation for the break in the long uncertainty period, -1561 to -996. From a study of glacial varves Schove (1978) found that the 11th century B.C. was indeed very cold, describing it as a "Little Ice Age." The Chinese record of other drops ...

... the Earth is suddenly peopled by humans, and one may investigate whether any memories remain of the plenum. There seem to be several legendary themes that correlate with our deductions about visibility. Seemingly, aboriginal legends describe the heavens as hard, heavy, marble-like and luminous. Earliest humans were seeing a vault, a dome [34. Probably in retrospect, to the heaven was ascribed the human qualities of a robe or covering, and, by extension, part of an anthropomorphic god. Thus, the Romans saw Coelus, the Chinese T'ien, the Hindus Varuna, and the Greeks Ouranos. Vail (1905/ 1972) presents ample evidence that day and night were uncertain and that the heavens were continuously translucent. When Hindu myth says that "the World was dark and asleep until the Great => Demiurge appeared", we construe the word "dark" as non-bright relative to the sunlit sky that came later. Heaven and Earth were close together, were spouses, according to Greek and other legends. The global climate of the Earth in the plenum ...

80. The Holy Land [The Saturn Myth] [Books]
... from a heavenly city occupied by the central sun. Every Egyptian town-- Heliopolis, Herakleopolis, Memphis, Abydos, Thebes, Hermopolis-- mirrored a prototype, a "city in which the sun shone forth in the beginning." So did Egypt as a whole, according to the ritual, reproduce the dwelling gathered together and unified by the creator. Hebrew tradition knew a heavenly Jerusalem which gave its name to the terrestrial city; and what the Hebrews claimed of their city, the Muslims claimed of Mecca. The Chinese declared their kingdom to be a copy of the celestial empire, and each capital city imitated the same plan. In unison, diverse traditions of the Near East, Europe, Asia, and the Americas recall a Holy Land par excellence, founded and ruled by the creator himself. From this Saturnian kingdom every nation took instruction in the ideals of kingship and in the proper organization of the sacred domain. The Mother Land In the creation myth the great god raised a circular plot of "earth" from the cosmic waters. ...
