521. Bookshelf [Journals] [SIS Review]
... From: SIS Review Vol VII Part A (1985) Home | Issue Contents Bookshelf THE VELIKOVSKY AFFAIR Inside Job COSMIC HERETICS by Alfred de Grazia (Metron Publications, Princeton, 1984; $23). Brian Moore This is undoubtedly the most continually engrossing of all de Grazia's books to date - particularly for the non-specialist as it tells a fascinating story, replete with an all-star cast of remarkable characters. (As it also features a walk-on part for this reviewer, the reader must allow for bias in the rest of this review!) Cosmic Heretics is comprehensively subtitled "A Personal History of Attempts to Establish and Resist Theories of Quantavolution and Catastrophe in the Natural and Human ...

From "Stargazers and Gravediggers" © 1983 by Immanuel Velikovsky | FULL TEXT NOT AVAILABLE Contents Are The Venus Tablets Missing?ONE OF THE NEWSPAPERMEN who came to interview me before the publication of the book was Harvey Breit of the The New York Times Book Review. According to his article printed on April 2, the eve of the publication date of Worlds in Collision, I said: "What I require from my reader is courage. Courage in what? Courage to trust in his own ability to think. He should read the book and look into references and make his own conclusions. He must remember that science is not licensed." From: Kronos Vol. I No. 3 (Fall 1975) Home | Issue Contents The Catastrophic Substructure of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra (Part I)Irving Wolfe [* This paper was first presented at the symposium titled Velikovsky and Cultural Amnesia held at the University of Lethbridge, May 9-11, 1974.] Introduction To encounter the work of Immanuel Velikovsky is to come up against a universal watershed. Once you cross over, you cannot look at anything as you did before. Every human activity, from war to government to science to religion to art, is seen in a new, revolutionary light. In this paper, I want to look at William Shakespeare's Antony ...

524. Venus and the Jubilee [Journals] [Aeon]
... From: Aeon III:1 (Nov 1992) Home | Issue Contents Venus and the Jubilee Bernard Newgrosh In Worlds in Collision, Dr. Velikovsky described the fifty-two year period of Venus observed in pre-Columbian Mexico. Every fifty-second year they watched in trepidation for the return of Venus, they offered human sacrifices, and when Venus had passed safely without cataclysm they ushered in the new cycle with bonfires. (1 ) He compared this fifty-two year cycle with the fifty year "jubilee" of the Israelites, a cycle in which the land was left fallow for a second consecutive year as an "atonement"- an atonement which is emphasized by its proclamation on the Day of ...

526. Poleshifts, Catastrophes, And Myths [Journals] [Velikovskian]
... "2 As was pointed out earlier, even Benjamin Franklin was driven to suggest "the Earth had anciently been in another position." The theory presented in this book is that the Ice Age ended not 10,000 years ago, as uniformitarians and some catastrophists propose, but that it ended with the onset of the hipsithermal, as Velikovsky claims, about 8,500 years ago, when a catastrophe caused the polar axis to move perpendicularly to the Earth's orbital plane. Up until about 3,500 years ago, the Earth experienced a Golden Age described in the mythology of the human race. That is, the hipsithermal was the Golden Age, but ended, according ...

... before the Exile. The Egyptians appear to have earned their unsavoury reputation during the development of the Jewish religion in the post-Exile period. We might ask another question at this point, which might seem strange at first: did the 400 years of bondage really precede the Exodus [1 ]? An end of Middle Kingdom Exodus was favoured by Velikovsky and has been adopted by most revisionists including the New Chronology' of David Rohl and Bernard Newgrosh. However the excavations at Tell ed Dab'a by Manfred Bietak have made it clear that the MK came to an end late in the MBIIA period of Syria-Palestine culture, when numerous sites were abandoned [2 ]. Velikovsky was keen to locate ...

... debt to his scholarship. Brown study Mr Brown's book is a well-written general introduction to archaeoastronomy and the main ideas - scientific and fanciful - which have emerged over the years. He gives a useful review of the scientific controversy and also includes several chapters on the unorthodoxies, from pyramidology to ley-hunting. The unorthodoxies naturally include the ideas of Immanuel Velikovsky - and here Mr Brown's book suffers a sad decline in quality. To Mr Brown's credit, he has at least invented his own distortions of Velikovsky's theories, rather than peddling the familiar ones, and he has updated his sources, displaying a tenuous acquaintance with the contents of Pensee - though only sufficient to garble Velikovsky's views even further ...
