312. Where We Are: A Call to Action [Articles]
... Transcript from the Princeton Seminar: Velikovsky: The Decade Ahead Where We Are: A Call to Action Joseph May Brief introduction by Warner Sizemore, then: Joseph May, Where We Are : A Call to Action "As we meet today, from one standpoint the occasion cannot be considered anything but sad. This is so because our mentor, Immanuel Velikovsky, whose thought and life energized and inspired us, is no longer with us. Aside from our own personal sense of loss, and to each of us this is great, we have no guiding spirit to correct our mistakes, lead us away from the blind alleys and point us into the most fruitful directions. ...
313. The Cosmic Serpent by Victor Clube and Bill Napier [Journals] [Kronos]
... U .K .: Faber and Faber, £12.50; U.S .: Universe Books, $17.95. It is an act of faith among most people with scientific training that everything contained in Velikovsky's books is wrong. I suspect that it is an act of faith among many readers of KRONOS that everything Velikovsky said can be taken as gospel truth. Faith is a dangerous thing in science, which ought to be concerned with doubt. Only by asking questions, and casting doubt on established ideas, has science progressed over the centuries. Galileo, Darwin, Einstein and the rest were all heretics in their day, and have all been deified ...
314. Hatshepsut and the Queen of Sheba: A Critique of Velikovsky's Identification and an Alternative View [Journals] [SIS Review]
... found to be poorly supported and problematical when the evidence is examined in detail. In particular, firsthand study of the Punt-reliefs at Deir el-Bahri reveals serious difficulties for Velikovsky's view that Hatshepsut visited Solomon in Jerusalem. Nevertheless, the reliefs do provide some indirect evidence which favours a lower dating of the XVIIIth Dynasty. Introduction In Ages in Chaos, Velikovsky ingeniously identifies Egypt's female Pharaoh Hatshepsut with the biblical Queen of Sheba [1 ]. One scholar has described this identification as "worked out in great and convincing detail" [2 ] - an impression which this writer shared until recently. While in Egypt in January 1981, I had the opportunity of paying two prolonged visits to Hatshepsut's ...
315. The Foibles of Heretics [Books] [de Grazia books]
... Highly special acts of terrorism increased around the world as highly general public opinion surveys showed the public to be regarding every group of leaders and every special group as untrustworthy, including their own national and world leaders. "The most despicable of all ways of suppression is denying to me the originality and correctness of my predictions." So said Velikovsky at a philosophical panel at Notre Dame on November 2, 1974. He was directing himself at the moment to Professor Michael Friedlander. Friedlander had announced, "One of the things I'm not going to do is to attempt to defend the foolish, and intemperate, and venomous statements that have been made by scientists over the last 25 ...

318. On the Pendulum Experiment (Vox Popvli) [Journals] [Kronos]
... Home | Issue Contents Vox Popvli On the Pendulum Experiment To the Editor of KRONOS: Regarding Dr. Velikovsky's proposal of experiments to test the velocity of fall of a pendulating object with respect to electrical charge, experiments along these lines were conducted in 1960-1964 by Erwin Saxl and published in Nature.(1 ) Erwin Saxl's experimental results are as Velikovsky expected, in that a charged pendulum behaved differently from an uncharged or grounded one. Polarity of applied charge also seems to have made a difference in Saxl's experiments, which used a rotating torque pendulum rather than a typical free swinging one- Saxl's experiments may therefore say more about inertial constancy than anything else. It should also be pointed ...

... From: SIS Internet Digest 1997:1 (Sep 1997) Home | Issue Contents Thoth Vol I, No. 10. April 22, 1997 Scholars In Desperation: Book Review By Earl Milton A new book Stephen Jay Gould and Immanuel Velikovsky has been published by Ivy Press of Forest Hills, New York. The name of Stephen Jay Gould is likely familiar to readers of commentaries about contemporary science. Alas, Immanuel Velikovsky's name is not as well known to these same readers. An explanation for this will become apparent long before readers finish Stephen Jay Gould and Immanuel Velikovsky. The book offers important incidents in the continuing Velikovsky Affair. Stephen Jay Gould and Immanuel Velikovsky touches ...
