152 pages of results. 11. The Stratigraphical Chronology of Ancient Israel [Journals] [Aeon]
... From: Aeon III:6 (Dec 1994) Home | Issue Contents The Stratigraphical Chronology of Ancient Israel Gunnar Heinsohn I. Ancient Israel Debunked? he fundamentalistically computed biblical dates for the major events in the history of ancient Israel cannot be convincingly synchronized with the stratigraphical sequence of the land's archaeological sites. This want of harmony between biblical chronology and archaeological stratigraphy is mainly due to the excavators' attempts to impose biblical dates on the strata which have actually been dated by other means- such as pseudo-astronomical (i .e ., Sothic) retrocalculations in Egyptology and arbitrarily-designed kinglists in Assyriology. Neither the biblical nor the "scholarly" dating schemes seem to be very much in ...

13. Rejoinder to Velikovsky [Journals] [Pensee]
... 1973-74 issue of Pensee (pp. 38-42), Immanuel Velikovsky replied to my criticism of his revised chronology (Pensee, Fall, 1973, pp. 10-12). However, his reply contained so many misunderstandings and misstatements that I feel constrained to make the following comments. First of all, Velikovsky seems to misunderstand the methodology of modern archaeology, at least in regard to the nature of stratigraphical evidence. In the first paragraph of his reply he quotes my statement that his historical reconstruction "cannot be reconciled with the stratigraphical evidence of archaeology," then counters with the claim that "by stratigraphical evidence are usually meant mute artifacts, mostly pottery." Neither pottery nor any ...
14. The Albrecht/Glueck-Aharoni/Rothenberg Confrontation [Journals] [Catastrophism & Ancient History]
... never given consideration on either side, and hence the problem remains open. The pertinent evidences and reasoning on which the two opposing views were defined will be reviewed briefly with a hope of providing a basis for harmonizing the defensible points on both sides and expanding the evidence as needed to encompass the third alternative. II. Glueck's Observations and Contentions Archaeological investigations in the Negeb were conducted by Nelson Glueck during the years 1932-47 and again in 1951-59. His early work was limited to surface examination of the pottery to be found in abundance at points of ancient occupation. Some 450 such sites were located. Glueck's deductions were based on evidence consistent throughout the area. The limits of the territory ...

17. New Archaeological Dates for the Israelite Conquest Part II [Journals] [Catastrophism & Ancient History]
... From: Catastrophism and Ancient History X:2 (July 1988) Home | Issue Contents New Archaeological Dates for the Israelite Conquest Part II Proposals for an MB IIC Conquest William H. Stiebing, Jr.The two most comprehensive cultural breaks in Palestinian archaeology occur at the end of the Early Bronze III Age and at the end of Middle Bronze I. Virtually every aspect of culture changed at these times- pottery styles, types of metal tools and weapons, burial practices, building styles, social organization, and general life style. But as we have seen in a previous article, [1 ] neither of these times of radical cultural change was likely to have marked ...

... History XIV:1 (Jan 1992) Home | Issue Contents A Critic in the Desert Yehoshua Etzion A review of Out of the Desert? by rofessor W.H . Stiebing Professor W.H . Stiebing, in his book "Out of the Desert?" [Buffalo, 1989], attempts to assess "the relationship between archaeological evidence from Egypt and Palestine, and the biblical stories of an Israelite Exodus from Egypt, and conquest of Canaan" (p . 13). Readers of C&AH, whose interest resides in new theories of ancient times, might however be disappointed, as broad sections of this book present merely an elementary material of Biblical studies ...

... From: SIS Review Vol II No 3 (1977/78) "From Exodus to Akhnaton" Home | Issue Contents The Hyksos and the Archaeology of Palestine John Bimson Copyright (c ) 1977 J. J. Bimson The revised placement of the Conquest suggested by Dr Bimson also involves a revision of the archaeological correlations for Egypt's Middle Kingdom and the Hyksos (2nd Intermediate) Period. The archaeological evidence is again found to support this. Introduction In a previous article (1 ) I attempted to show that the conventional date for the end of the Middle Bronze Age in Palestine (c . 1550 BC) is too high by over a century. At the end of ...
