... Or, he suggests that an incoming Nefilim spacecraft, with wings apparently similar to American solar-powered spacecraft, is passing between Mars and Earth. In Stairway to Heaven Sitchin attempts to broaden and trace the earthly experiences of the Nibiruans and of mankind itself. In a sense it is his most fascinating but difficult book. He concentrates on previously obtuse religious rituals such as are described in the Egyptian Book of the Dead, or the repeated and desperate ancient searches for the Tree of Life or Immortality, such as the Gilgamesh Epic. In these rituals and myths Sitchin finds a continuous attempt by both men and women to be like "the gods"- to gain immortality. These are ...
982. The Answer to Clapham's Question: Revise! [Journals] [Catastrophism & Ancient History]
... straightened out, most of what Clapham and other modern Bible commentators have opined about Biblical chronologies and historicity will have to be reconsidered and, no doubt, jettisoned. I agree with Clapham that it is likely, as argued by John van Seters, that the Bible was a late composition. It certainly contains historical distortions designed to bolster the religious and political positions and values of its authors. But it does not automatically follow from this that the Biblical chronologies are in total error. After all, inscriptions from Assyria, Babylonia, and Moab provide strong confirmation of the basic accuracy of the chronological framework of Kings- at least from Omri onward. And Herodotus provides independent confirmation of ...
983. Sothic Dating: the Shameless Enterprise [Journals] [SIS Review]
... . However most of the documents dated by Porten are from the Jewish military colony at Elephantine and many scholars believe the dates are from a Jewish calendar [15]. Whilst the Jewish lunar calendar during the period in question was quite similar to the Babylonian, in many instances the actual years in which months were intercalated almost certainly differed for religious if not for other reasons [16]. In addition, Jewish practice has been to intercalate only the month of Adar while the Babylonians used both Addaru and Ululu, although it is possible this difference was not found in the 5th or 4th centuries BC. So in some years the same date on the two calendars could have differed ...
984. Response to Lasken (Letter) [Journals] [Catastrophism & Ancient History]
... or Thutmose III etc. The more radical revisions seem to create more problems than solutions and although I am excited by some of Heinsohn's ideas (as an example) I have yet to be convinced. I look forward to the publication of Jesse's theory regarding the Flood and further C14 anomalies. Regarding other criticism- the Bible is primarily a religious document and not a detailed chronology of the Ancient World but unlike Manetho it attracts anti-clerical diatribes. Phillip Clapham England ...

986. Gods of the New Millennium by Alan F. Alford [Journals] [SIS Review]
... 2024 BC, when relations between individual gods deteriorated, leading to a nuclear war which destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah - and also the Sinai Space Centre and the Sumerian civilisation. Alford has studied many of the ancient monuments in detail and he is right to ask whether some of the odder features of ancient temples' had practical industrial, rather than religious, functions. He is also right to wonder at the stoneworking (and stone-moving) skills of the ancients and the miraculous list of discoveries reputedly made in Sumer long before anywhere else (including the manufacture of bronze, even though the area lacks suitable mineral deposits). As he says, these demand an explanation, and he has ...
987. Letters [Journals] [SIS Workshop]
... is still a commitment. My point in all this was and is to maintain that the catastrophist school of thought is one which is more conducive to the success of reaching a true historical interpretation of the Scriptures than perhaps any other post-Darwinian school of thought which has tended towards being fundamentalist or allegorical in its effort to resolve the seeming conflict between religion and science. The other point raised by Mrs Kluitman is one on which it seems I must beg to differ. While I am prepared to concede that "myth" and "fairy tales" are not 100% identical on account of the difference of their subject matter, I cannot agree that this concession makes a lot of difference ...
988. Advert [Journals] [Horus]
... ADVERTISEMENT Memories & Visions of Paradise Richard Heinberg The Spiritual Heritage and Destiny of Mankind Scholars have long known of the universal myth of a perhistoric paradise in which godlike human beings knew oneness with cosmos and nature. Though the paradise myth has been a powerful symbol in the human mass subconscious, it has usually been approached either on the basis of religious faith or of a scientific analysis and denial. In this concise yet significant volume mankind's memories and prophecies of paradise are offered at face value as the most urgent and persistent message of our remote ancestors. Memories and Visions of Paradise is at once a restatement of mankind's earliest utterances, and a revelation of the most powerful collective subconscious drives ...
989. Stonehenge - A Calendar? (Forum) [Journals] [Kronos]
... Stonehenge must include at least a note on the Altar Stone. Being at the very center of the complex, and considering the importance of a center position to such people, this stone must be mentioned. The rising Sun on June 21 does strike the Altar Stone before the ground, according to some researchers, lending credence to a possible religious significance to the event (discarding the name applied to the Stone). I question any attempt to make Stonehenge a calendar. The basic reasons for having a calendar by such early people must have been to predict seasons and eclipses. Stonehenge does seem to be aligned with celestial indicators of the four main seasons; that is to be ...
