... . Jueneman's "pc" which appeared in the third issue of KRONOS (I:3), pp. 73-83.-- LMG As Carl Sagan sees it, there's a need for Isaac Asimov: "In this technological century, we need an interface between science and the public, and nobody can do that job as well as Asimov. He's the great explainer of the age." And Asimov, author of eight or nine score books lately tending toward such titles as Asimov's Guide to the Bible, Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare, and Asimov's Guide to Science, publisher of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, undoubtedly agrees; he readily admits to being a genius. But interfacer Asimov gives this much in return: "The most effective critic of Velikovsky is, in my opinion, Cornell astronomer Carl Sagan, and as far as I know, he [supposedly in contrast to Velikovsky has no emotional, willing-to-die-for-him supporters except me." Nevertheless, as a compulsive explainer of received opinion in science and everything else, Asimov intrudes on Sagan's territory now and ...

The wording of the last two sentences of paragraph two on page 47 of KRONOS VI:3 should have read: "It is of more than passing interest to note, however, that there are magnetic declination inflections ca. 1500 B.C. at both Loch Lomond and Lake Windermere. These are suggestive, within a catastrophic context, of a double magnetic reversal, close together in time, of the type advocated by Warlow." (19) The note on Shakespeare by Prof. Richard Jaarsma in KRONOS VI:3, p.94, should have stated that there were 13 comets sighted in 45 years as opposed to the erroneously listed figure of 145 years. \cdrom\pubs\journals\kronos\vol0604\096corri.htm ...

... From: Kronos Vol. VIII No. 1 (Fall 1982) Home¦ Issue Contents Science-Fiction and Collective Amnesia: "Dragon's Egg" Richard J. Jaarsma In Mankind in Amnesia, Immanuel Velikovsky suggests that writers of drama, fiction, and poetry sometimes unconsciously make explicit reference to the great natural catastrophes that, Velikovsky claims, have swept our planet in ancient historical times. He cites, as some examples, passages from Shakespeare, Byron, and Poe which describe not only the events themselves but the unbearable terror such events caused in those who were subjected to them.(1) Fiction, Velikovsky asserts, gives us a way of "handling", "tolerating", and "reliving" such catastrophes- safely, comfortably without mental or emotional chaos. Yet, one can go further than Velikovsky does by noting that, even where literature does not necessarily recall specific catastrophic events, much of literature has an inherent catastrophic structure. A look at plot in fiction, for instance, reveals that plot is itself an unconscious expression of terror and ...
